Naan Bread

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted ghee or butter
  • 1 egg, beaten (optional)
  • Garlic, minced (optional)
  • Cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Nigella seeds or sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture
  • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
2. Mix the Dough
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift the all-purpose flour and salt together. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, plain yogurt, milk, melted ghee or butter, and beaten egg if using.
  • Using your hands or a wooden spoon, mix the ingredients until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more warm water. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
3. Knead the Dough
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for this step.
