CROCK POT PULLED PORK

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 pounds pork shoulder (also known as pork butt), trimmed of excess fat
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce, plus more for serving
  • Hamburger buns, for serving
  • Coleslaw, pickles, or other toppings, for serving (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper to make the dry rub.
  2. Rub the dry rub mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is evenly coated.
  3. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in the slow cooker and pour the chicken broth or water over it.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  5. Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and transfer it to a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
  6. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir in the barbecue sauce until the meat is evenly coated.
  7. Cover and cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  8. Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns with additional barbecue sauce and your favorite toppings, such as coleslaw or pickles, if desired.
