Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 cup beef broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Directions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Toss to coat the beef evenly, then set aside to marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef to the skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper to the skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and stir-fry for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the skillet and stir to combine with the vegetables.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth or water, oyster sauce, soy sauce, sugar, black pepper, and sesame oil. Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables in the skillet.
  7. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.
  8. Remove the skillet from the heat and garnish the Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions with thinly sliced green onions.
  9. Serve the dish hot over cooked rice or noodles, and enjoy!
