1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoons mustard
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Slice the French bread in half lengthwise and place it on a baking sheet, cut sides up.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and fully cooked through. Drain excess fat.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Remove from heat and mix in the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper. Spread this mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the top of the meat mixture.
In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with the chopped fresh parsley. Spread this garlic butter mixture over the cheese layer.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is golden and crispy on the edges.
Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing into pieces. Serve warm.
Variations & Tips
For a spicier kick, add some jalapeño slices or a dash of hot sauce to the meat mixture. You can also swap out the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. For an added touch of freshness, consider topping the baked bread with fresh diced tomatoes or pickles just before serving. If you’re a fan of mushrooms, sauté some and mix them in with the ground beef for an extra layer of flavor.
