Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (or one packet)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup warm water
Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Mix well to combine.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool until just warm.
- Add the warm milk and butter mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover the loaf with a clean kitchen towel and let rise for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the top of the risen loaf with warm water.
- Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
