BREAD WITH MILK AND BUTTER

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (or one packet)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Directions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar. Mix well to combine.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and let cool until just warm.
  3. Add the warm milk and butter mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm, draft-free place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  8. Cover the loaf with a clean kitchen towel and let rise for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the top of the risen loaf with warm water.
  10. Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
