Ingredients:
- 1 pound mostaccioli pasta
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions:
Cooking the Pasta
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the mostaccioli pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Preparing the Sauce
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage, and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Stir in the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
